Resumo(s)
The work presented develops an analysis with the purpose of studying the determinants of public education expenditure for twelve European countries over the period 1984-2004. For this purpose, we estimate an equation where the dependent variable is public education expenditure. We find evidence that gross domestic product and the elderly group age of society have a positive impact on education expenditure, while the population in school age has a negative impact. Furthermore, we show evidence on the fact that the governments do not take into account the number of students enrolled.
