This work project investigates how venture capital drives green innovation in European countries by focusing on the institutional and policy conditions that shape it. Analysing panel data from 27 EU countries from 2007 to 2021, results show that venture capital improves green
patenting, but its efficiency is shaped by regulatory quality and climate policy stringency. Strong governance and ambitious climate policies enhance innovation outcomes, but poor governance and less ambitious climate policies inhibit them. The findings emphasise the need to combine venture capital with supportive institutions and climate policies to accelerate Europe's green transition
