Resumo(s)
It is not a new phenomenon that humans are confronted with technological development that challenges occupation norms. However, despite the vast research on the employment implication, uncertainty still very much persists regarding the employment effects of automation. This thesis presents an effort to assess the relationship between the employment outcome of automation and labor market structures. Using a panel of 15 countries from 1995 to 2015, this thesis employs a dynamic Arellano-Bover estimator to investigate the interaction between automation and employment protection driving employment growth. This thesis provides evidences howing that the presence of stronger employment protection in high ICT industries generates a negative impact on the employment effect of automation.
