Resumo(s)
The paper studies how social transfers affect mortality across age groups, using the
Mortality Quotient as a proxy. It shows a non-linear relationship between Mortality, Risk of
Poverty, and Social Transfers. The Logarithm of the Mortality Quotient is adopted, and it
reveals a negative relationship between Mortality and Risk of Poverty. The connection between
Mortality and Social Transfers is explored through policy simulations and exhibits a negative
association, indicating social transfers’ potential to alleviate poverty-related mortality. When
removing social transfers for each age, the logarithm of the mortality quotient has increased by
190% for Age 40 compared to the baseline.
