| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this work is to measure technical of sheep and goats' farms in the EU using two different methods, namely, Stochastic Frontiers Approach (SFA) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The former is stochastic and parametric, and while the later is deterministic and non-parametric. In this empirical study SFA provides more realistic results than DEA. The main results are that Greek farmers exhibit the higher levels of technical efficiency and in terms on inefficiency effects, the mean efficiency tends to decrease with subsidies and to increase with stocking density, loans and size. | eng |
