This paper focuses on the system of performance appraisal in the Educational sector, specifically on teacher’s evaluation. Towards the analysis of the Portuguese case, two other countries were also considered – UK and Finland. Interviews were made to teachers of the secondary level to substantiate the current change in our system and to determine different points of view. Simultaneously, data from the Cranet Survey on International Strategic HRM was also considered.
My main goal with this paper was to find a pattern within this sector. Nevertheless diverse external concerns have to be taken into account, in addition to the institutional context and characteristics. I was able to observe some best-practices as well as some constraints. Ultimately, a cooperative and flexible environment should be created in order to enlarge the sense of belonging by all the people involved.
