As a major country in Chinese companies’ mergers and acquisitions’ map,it can be observedthat Chinese acquisitions have increased obviously in Portugal recently. A question that is received, however, is what rolegovernment play in Chinese acquisitions in Portugal. We use quantitative and qualitative data to analyze motivations and performance of Chinese acquisitions from 2005 to 2018. The paper suggests that government activities really impact Chinese acquisitions in Portugal and the evidence is obvious for Stated-owned enterprises.pt_PT
