This thesis examines barriers and enablers of scaling sustainable start-ups in Europe across regulation, financing, and talent. Building on a structured literature review and 15 semi structured interviews with founders, venture capitalists, and sustainable industry experts, it
shows how regulation in form of administrative burdens and policy volatility slow market adoption, while well-designed policies can create demand niches. Findings also reveal a persistent funding gap and the need for blended finance mechanisms. Finally, purpose attracts
talent, but retention depends on mission execution and clear people structures. It derives actionable implications for founders to enable resilient growth during the scaling phase.
