Este relatório de estágio insere-se no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução e corresponde
à componente não letiva do ano letivo 2024/2025. O seu principal objetivo é documentar a
experiência de estágio realizada na Guerra & Paz, Editores, durante a qual o estagiário
traduziu a obra The Napoleon of Notting Hill, de G.K. Chesterton. O relatório está estruturado
em diferentes capítulos: o primeiro capítulo introduz o estágio, apresentando a editora e as
tarefas desempenhadas; o segundo capítulo apresenta G.K. Chesterton, contextualiza a obra e
relata os desafios mais relevantes encontrados durante o processo de tradução, bem como as
estratégias adotadas para os resolver; no terceiro capítulo, são exploradas as bases teóricas
que sustentaram as decisões tradutórias, incluindo conceitos como domesticação,
estrangeirização e o papel do tradutor na recriação de um texto. Por fim, o relatório conclui
com uma reflexão sobre a experiência do estagiário e o conhecimento adquiridas ao longo do
processo.
This internship report is part of the Master's programme in Translation and corresponds to the non-teaching component of the 2024/2025 academic year. Its main aim is to document the internship experience at Guerra & Paz, Editores, during which the intern translated G.K. Chesterton's The Napoleon of Notting Hill. The report is structured in different chapters: the first chapter introduces the internship, the publishing house and the tasks performed; the second chapter introduces G.K. Chesterton, contextualises the work and reports on the most significant challenges encountered during the translation process, as well as the strategies adopted to resolve them; the third chapter explores the theoretical bases that underpinned the translation decisions, including concepts such as domestication, foreignisation and the role of the translator in recreating a text. Finally, the report concludes with a reflection on the trainee's experience and the knowledge acquired throughout the process.
