| dc.description.abstract | A presente dissertação apresenta como objeto de estudo a análise dos primeiros debates parlamentares relativos à interrupção voluntária da gravidez em Portugal, que tiveram lugar na Assembleia da República em novembro de 1982. A partir de uma reflexão sobre o significado do 25 de abril de 1974 para a população portuguesa, procurou-se compreender de que formas é que a mudança de regime não foi suficiente para marcar uma rutura definitiva com os valores incutidos pelo Estado Novo sobre o papel da mulher na sociedade e para com as leis que regiam a sua liberdade sexual. Perante um quadro adverso à plena consagração e respeito pelos direitos da mulher, a ação incansável e fundamental das organizações feministas na luta pelos seus direitos sexuais e reprodutivos ocupa uma parte substancial da investigação, uma vez que se revelou imprescindível na pressão exercida sobre o poder político para que este promovesse um debate sério e informado sobre os problemas das mulheres em Portugal, onde a questão do aborto se destaca naturalmente. A crescente reação aos avanços conhecidos por estas ações – que, com uma maior cobertura por parte da imprensa e dos media, passaram a ser reconhecidas internacionalmente e a contar com o apoio de grupos de mulheres de toda a Europa -, mas também às iniciativas apresentadas pelo Partido Comunista Português no início do ano de 1982, levou a que as principais figuras da Igreja Católica, do Governo e da oposição começassem a reagir publicamente a estes acontecimentos. Partindo deste quadro de apoio e contestação às iniciativas legislativas apresentadas e à ação desenvolvida pelas feministas, procurou-se avaliar o grau de envolvimento dos partidos políticos (apoiados por movimentos Pró-Vida e Pró-Escolha) e o respetivo posicionamento durante a luta pela despenalização do aborto em Portugal no início dos anos 80. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The present dissertation presents as an object of study the analysis of the first parliamentary debates concerning the voluntary termination of pregnancy in Portugal, which took place in the Assembly of the Republic in November 1982. Based on a reflection on the meaning of April 25, 1974 for the portuguese population, an attempt was made to understand the ways in which the change of regime was not enough to mark a definitive break with the values instilled by the Estado Novo on the role of women in society and with the laws that governed their sexual freedom. Faced with an adverse scenario to the full consecration and respect for women's rights, the tireless and fundamental action of feminist organizations in the fight for their sexual and reproductive rights occupies a substantial part of the investigation, since it proved to be essential in the pressure exerted on political power for it to promote a serious and informed debate on the problems of women in Portugal, where the issue of abortion naturally stands out. The growing reaction to the advances known for these actions - which, with greater coverage by the press and media, became internationally recognized and had the support of women's groups across Europe -, but also to the initiatives presented by the Portuguese Communist Party at the beginning of 1982, led to the public reaction of the main figures of the Catholic Church, the Government and the opposition to these events. Based on this framework of support and opposition to the legislative initiatives presented and the action taken by feminists, an attempt was made to assess the degree of involvement of political parties (supported by the Pro-Life and Pro-Choice movements) and their respective positioning during the struggle for decriminalization of abortion in Portugal in the early 1980s. | pt_PT |
