O Mustierense é o principal tecno-complexo associado aos Neandertais na Península Ibérica. Insere-se cronológica e ambientalmente entre os Estados Isotópicos Marinhos (daqui em diante grafado como MIS - Marine Isotope Stage 7 e 3, e do ponto de vista artefactual é caraterizado pela debitagem Levallois, grande frequência da debitagem discóide e pontualmente por debitagem Quina. Esta produção é acompanhada por uma vasta gama de utensílios retocados sobre suportes, normalmente lascas, que incluem vários tipos de raspadores, bem como de entalhes e denticulados (Bordes, 1961a). Estes utensílios retocados substituem os utensílios sobre grandes lascas (LCT = Large Cutting Tools) que caracterizam o Acheulense.
Na bacia do baixo Tejo, nomeadamente em Vila Velha de Ródão, o Mustierense surge desde o desmantelamento do T3 sobre o T4 e a metade superior do T4 até à base do T6. Esta dissertação abordará o sítio Monte da Revelada, posicionado no desmantelamento do T4 e sobranceiro ao T5, sendo-lhe atribuída uma cronologia preliminar entre os 165 e os 135 mil anos (daqui em diante grafado como ka = kilo anos); aguardam-se os resultados das datações radiométricas sobre amostras recolhidas).
Identificado no âmbito da construção da nova fabrica de papel Tissue da Paper Prime, S.A., em Vila Velha de Ródão, os trabalhos de escavação permitiram recolher mais de 40.000 artefactos entre cerâmica pré́-histórica, termoclastos e indústria lítica de, pelo menos, três contextos diferentes: Neolítico, Epipaleolítico e Mustierense.
Desconhecendo-se a existência de variabilidades diacrónica dentro do Mustierense, esta dissertação pretende apresentar a tecnologia e tipologia lítica do conjunto atribuído a esta cultura e discutir a integração das comunidades Neandertais no respetivo quadro cronológico e ambiental. No final, espera-se que este trabalho represente uma contribuição significativa para o conhecimento do Mustierense em Vila Velha de Ródão e, por extensão, no ocidente peninsular.
The Mustierense is the main techno-complex associated with Neanderthals in the Iberian Peninsula. Chronologically and environmentally, it falls between Marine Isotope Stages 7 and 3 (hereinafter referred to as MIS), and from an artefactual point of view, it is characterised by Levallois flaking, a high frequency of discoid flaking and, occasionally, Quina flaking. This production is accompanied by a wide range of retouched tools on supports, usually flakes, which include various types of scrapers, as well as notches and denticles (Bordes, 1961a). These retouched tools replace the large flake tools (LCT = Large Cutting Tools) that characterise the Acheulean. In the lower Tagus basin, namely in Vila Velha de Ródão, the Mustierian appears from the dismantling of T3 on T4 and the upper half of T4 to the base of T6. This dissertation will address the Monte da Revelada site, located in the dismantling of T4 and overlooking T5, with a preliminary chronology between 165 and 135 thousand years (hereinafter referred to as ka = kilo years); the results of radiometric dating on collected samples are awaited. Identified during the construction of the new Tissue paper factory of Paper Prime, S.A., in Vila Velha de Ródão, the excavation work allowed for the collection of more than 40,000 artefacts, including prehistoric pottery, thermoclasts and lithic industry from at least three different contexts: Neolithic, Epipalaeolithic and Mousterian. As the existence of diachronic variations within the Mousterian is unknown, this dissertation aims to present the technology and lithic typology of the set attributed to this culture and discuss the integration of Neanderthal communities into the respective chronological and environmental framework. Ultimately, it is hoped that this work will make a significant contribution to our knowledge of the Mousterian in Vila Velha de Ródão and, by extension, in the western Iberian Peninsula.
