This thesis is designed as a pedagogical case study about ispace, a Japanese lunar exploration company operating in the emerging New Space sector. The case describes how ispace navigates two consecutive mission failures and managerial challenges in a high-risk
industry. By adopting a qualitative single-case study research design, the thesis examines strategic topics such as stakeholder management, public-private partnerships, market creation, and failure recovery. The case is supported by a teaching note that employs Stakeholder
Mapping and the Legitimacy Management Framework to enable an insightful classroom discussion about operating in uncertain industries and the role of legitimacy.
