Resumo(s)

This project aimed at understanding the driving behaviors of the average investor and the average casino gambler and analyzing to which extent both agents share similar characteristics. In order to assess (dis)similarities between both groups, 4 variables were selected: (1) emotional attachment; (2) magical thinking and quasi-magical thinking; (3) control and (4) confidence in outcomes. Results show that both groups tend to define their upward and downward limits differently, focusing more on the latter, and that casino gamblers are much more prone to resort to magical thinking and quasi-magical thinking acts during their activities. Additionally, confidence in outcomes was much higher within stock market investors.
