| dc.description.abstract | This study analyses generational differences in rental housing preferences in Belgium, focusing on Generation Z and Generation X. A qualitative approach was used by conducting 20 semi-structured interviews, to explore key factors such as affordability, location and lifestyle priorities. The findings reveal Generation Z prioritizes affordability, urban proximity and flexibility, seeing renting as a temporary step towards homeownership. In contrast, Generation X prefers stability, larger spaces and suburban living. They often rent due to life transitions. This research highlights how economic, social and life stage factors influence rental behavior. It gives insights for policymakers, rental market operators and developers to address generational housing needs. | eng |
