    "Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a biologically active gasotransmitter with critical roles in redox regulation, mitochondrial function, and metabolic adaptation to stress. Endogenous H2S production and degradation are tightly linked to cysteine availability and are mediated by a network of enzymes that also influence glutathione metabolism and protein persulfidation. Cysteine thus serves as a metabolic hub, connecting major redox pathways essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. While the roles of H2S and cysteine in health and disease are increasingly appreciated, how these sulfur metabolic pathways adapt under sustained oxidative stress, such as chronic hypoxia, remains poorly understood, particularly in the context of chronic kidney disease (CKD).(...)"
