Resumo(s)

Bone regeneration plays an indispensable role when placing a bone graft. For the intended purpose, some procedures are performed such as graft placement, placement of a membrane or the use of both. The objective of this work was to develop porcine pericardium membranes intended for application in the field of dental medicine. After, the characterization of the morphology, chemical composition, biocompatibility and swelling ability of the produced membranes (Samples 1 and 2) was performed by the techniques of SEM, FTIR, tensile tests, cytotoxicity tests and swelling tests, respectively. SEM analysis showed that both produced membranes are occlusive with a porous core and a fibrous outer layer. The FTIR analysis demonstrated that both samples presented the characteristic bands of a collagen membrane. The tensile tests allowed to assess that, of the produced membranes during this work, the Sample 1 membranes presented a higher mechanical resistance, with the average of the Young’s Modulus 3 times higher than the Sample 2 for dry conditions and almost 3 times higher for wet conditions. Cytotoxicity assays demonstrated that both samples are non-cytotoxic for the studied ranges (except for the initial concentration C0, where membrane 1 is moderately cytotoxic) and are suitable for medical applications. The analyses of swelling allowed to observe that the membranes of the Sample 2 are those that have a greater variation. In conclusion, this study showed that the membranes of both samples are suitable for the intended purpose, however the optimization of the productions methods is still possible.
