This paper aims at studying the population of ecclesiastics who, apart from their integrationwithin the Church beneficial system, have played some role in the Portuguese royaladministration during the reign of D. Dinis (1279-1325). Based on a corpus of 104 individuals,the analysis is structured in three main axes. Firstly, we look at this group’s inclusion in theadministration of D. Dinis, distinguishing the several “departments” where they appear.Secondly, we study these men’s ecclesiastical careers, within the institutional Church. Finally,we attempt to analyse the collected data having in mind a hypothetical third way of insertion, which we relate with the network of personal bonds of dependence which these men have been able to establish between themselves. Este estudo procura caracterizar o universo dos eclesiásticos que, para além da sua inserção no sistema de benefícios, desempenharam algum tipo de função na administração régia portuguesa,ao tempo de D. Dinis (1279-1325). Assente num corpus de 104 indivíduos, a análise estrutura-se em três eixos fundamentais. Em primeiro lugar, procuramos atentar na integração deste grupo na administração dionisina, distinguindo os vários “departamentos” de inserção.Em segundo lugar, estudaremos as carreiras especificamente eclesiásticas destes clérigos,no seio da Igreja. Finalmente, procuraremos analisar os dados recolhidos à luz da investigação de uma hipotética terceira via de inserção, que situamos ao nível da teia de relações pessoais de dependência que estes homens teceram entre si.
