As confrarias de Lisboa têm resistido à síntese. Face às insuficiências documentais que têm limitado a investigação sobre o tema, este artigo propõe uma primeira abordagem, necessariamente sintética e parcial, sobre a evolução histórica da rede confraternal na cidade até 1551. Pretende-se igualmente tecer algumas considerações sobre a sua caracterização, nomeadamente ao nível das cronologias de fundação ou de primeira referência, à tipologia das confrarias envolvidas e das suas relações com outras instituições assistenciais no período considerado. The confraternities of Lisbon have resisted the synthesis. Given thedocumentary shortcomings that have limited research on the subject, thisarticle proposes a first, necessarily synthetic and partial approach to thehistorical evolution of the confraternal network in the city until 1551. It is alsointended to make some considerations about its characterization, namely atthe level of chronologies of foundation or first reference, the typology of theconfraternities involved and their relations with other welfare institutionsduring the period under scrutiny.
