With this investigation, inserted in the specialized area of Adult Education and Formation, I intended to search about the contribution of museological practice in the process of education and formation of senior adults. I also intend to examine thoroughly the study of the relationship between Museums and Senior Universities (SU) and produce more knowledge in the sphere both the link between museology and education and the joint contribution of these areas of knowledge into society. I must stress the guiding lines of the European Council for Education (ECE) which have been considering museums as educatinal and formative institutions in their activities. The present demographic and social context of pronounced aging in Portugal represents, either for museums as cultural institutions and non-formal and informal places of knowledge Through Life (KTL) and modern citizenship, or for SUs, considered as a good example of the combination of scholarity, cultural consumption, time occupation and promotion of active aging and KTL - affording older people the possibility of learning or teaching - a high potential and an increasing challenge to which the referred institutions must pay special attention. This study, centered in museums and senior visitors, developed in the way of knowing in which way museums can contribute to the education and formation of senior adults from SUs through interaction, promotion and intervention of museological education, which seems to be of the utmost importance by the contribution it can give to the scientific community to the already existing knowledge about this issue. The study centered in three main axes: i) investigation of the contributions that can occur from the relationship between museums and SUs as spaces of formation and education for the building and fulfilment of practices promoting the education and formation process of senior adults; ii) analysis of the power of educational partnerships, their working and impacts in the process of education and formation of senior adults and in the formation of senior intermediaries of museological education and iii) analysis of documents produced at worldwide and national levels related to the museological guiding lines and about the role of museums and SUs, both in the sphere of the educatinal and formative process of senior adults and for the working up of the characterization of those institutions. In order to materialize this investigation I developed an interpretative study, "interpretation-action"; as it was partaken and co-operated together with professionals from museums in the formation of students/seniors of Nova Atena, making to come forth the figure of museological education senior intermediary. I applied to the community of Nova Atena - senior teachers and students - questionnaires. I made interviews with senior intermediaries after their performances; I collected the data of visits to museums from the point of view of the XII watching observers; I made the documental analysis; I prepared a document of partnership proposal between SUs and museums; I had informal talks with key informers. The result of this research allowed to check the benefits of museological practice in the process of education and formation of senior adults, the contribution of museums in the purpose of promoting KTL and active aging, the unavailability of adopting a mudeological education, the need to establish partnerships SUs/Museums and the need of educative and formative actors as mediators of museological communication, teachers/ students/ seniors or museologists. Museums are true educative resources whose formative potentialities aren' t fairly used yet.
