Contrary to what one might think, learning music can be effective even in the presence of limiting conditions associated with ageing. In addition to reporting a three-year experiment of music education with a group of 26 individuals with an average age of 70.8 years, this paper intends to show that music learning is effective, resulting in added value for the understanding and use of the language of music in projects dedicated to furthering personal enrichment and development in the ageing process. The strategies used and their respective results are discussed, based on the premises of active ageing.
