A relação
This thesis seeks to investigate a connection between the work of Antero de Quental and Giacomo Leopardi based on Sonetos Completos and Canti, considering its ideation and construction, analysing proximities and divergences. The relationship between the two poets and their works is grounded in their way of understanding poetry in its social significance and in its modern conditions of existence, from an historical point of view common to both writers. This reflection presents the analysis of the poetic production and of the dialogue between ‘poetizing thought’ and ‘thinking poetry’ which defines and places near the two works, highlighting the value of the concept of book and of poetic ‘collection’, going beyond the form in which poetry has necessary to be built. Starting from the idea of the book understood as ‘autobiography’ and as the result of a poetic present, the investigation leads then to an undeniable common ground shared by the two writers: a vision that creates a pessimistic conception of the individual and history. From this perspective, it will be also considered the ‘conversion’ from poetry to philosophy and the concept of 'system', observed, ultimately, through the anti-modern point of view of Antoine Compagnon.
