Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objecto de estudo a distribuição dos materiais a bordo da fragata portuguesa Santo António de Taná, naufragada em Mombaça em 1697, registados durante a sua escavação subaquática em finais dos anos setenta.
Procurámos discernir áreas de concentração das diversas classes e sub-classes de materiais, de modo a fazer uma proposta acerca da organização espacial deste navio. De facto, apesar das alterações nas posições dos objectos provocadas pelo naufrágio e por agentes pós-deposicionais, é possível discernir áreas funcionais específicas no interior da embarcação como zonas de oficina e armazém ou de aposento dos oficiais.
This Master thesis has as it object of study the distribution of materials/cargo aboard the portuguese frigate Santo António de Taná, sunk in Mombasa, in 1697, that were registered during its excavation in the late 70s. We tried to define areas of concentration of classes and subclasses of materials, so we could propose a division/special organization applied in this ship in particular. We concluded that, despite all the alterations in the positions of the objects, because of the sinking process, it is possible to mark some specific areas that would have existed inside the ship as, for example, a bos’n’s store/storage or the accomodations of the higher officers.
