Resumo(s)
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping the field of project management, offering new possibilities
for improving efficiency, decision-making, and strategic alignment. However, while the literature
highlights the potential benefits of AI across individual project processes, there is a lack of
comprehensive, practical guidance on how AI can be systematically integrated into project
management offices. This study adopts a design science research methodology to address this gap and
develop a set of actionable guidelines that support organizations in leveraging AI within PMO
structures. The research begins with a structured literature review to identify existing AI tools,
techniques, and applications relevant to PMOs, followed by a systematic review of academic studies
that directly explore this intersection. Based on these findings, a framework is proposed that aligns AI
capabilities with core PMO functions such as resource allocation, risk management, and performance
monitoring. The guidelines are then validated through expert interviews with professionals from
academia and industry. This study contributes to both research and practice by offering a structured
path for PMOs to adopt AI technologies, supporting more informed decision-making and continuous
improvement. In doing so, it enhances the understanding of AI’s role in complex organizational
environments and lays the foundation for future studies on AI integration in project governance.
