Resumo(s)
This thesis explores the creation process of a Business Intelligence (BI) framework designed to
improve the understanding of Portugal’s energy usage and sustainability, using open-source
data from the electricity operator, E-Redes. This project work leverages Kimball’s Lifecycle
methodology to develop a scalable data architecture that includes data ingestion,
transformation, and visualization using Microsoft Fabric tools and Power BI. This framework
consists of many elements such as a dimensional model with fact and dimension tables,
calculated KPIs to monitor different scopes such as energy production, consumption,
efficiency and sustainability. The interactive nature of the dashboard allows stakeholders to
conduct impactful analyses across different temporal, geographic, and voltage-level
granularities. Among the key findings were seasonal trends in consumption, the
predominance of low-voltage usage, and regional disparities in energy use which are aligned
with the literature found. In addition of addressing a significant gap in the literature by
delivering a complete and replicable Business Intelligence (BI) framework for national-level
energy monitoring this work also offers a decision-support tool for policy makers, energy
providers, and sustainability researchers.
