Energy efficiency is a crucial topic in today's world, as it is an important way to combat climate change and the scarcity of natural resources. In the industry, any improvement in en- ergy efficiency can result in significant reductions in energy consumption and, consequently, fossil fuel consumption. Equipment maintenance is important in improving energy efficiency, as it not only in- volves repairing the equipment, but also ensures the preservation of their proper functioning, thereby resulting in equipment efficiency over its lifespan closer to its original value. In many industries, electromechanical drives are fundamental elements for proper operation, and fail- ures of these equipment lead to financial losses due to production line stoppages. Further- more, proper maintenance is essential to ensure that the equipment is in good condition, min- imizing power losses and extending its useful lifespan. This study was conducted with the support of SEW-EURODRIVE Portugal. A model and a procedure were developed for its application, which help determine the efficiency of gear motors. The energy gains achieved through proper maintenance of gear motors were also evaluated. Technical and scientific information on typical power losses in each of the compo- nents of these devices was collected. A case study was conducted in a beverage production company, where equipment con- sumption before and after maintenance, as well as the failures that led to losses, were analysed. Additionally, suggestions were developed to improve the maintenance management of the studied company. The proposed model and procedure can be easily adapted to other types of gear motors, other applications of the same, and other industrial equipment.
