Changes to food production systems require the search for and implementation of new means of planning and management of the agricultural sector towards its sustainable devel- opment, requiring qualitative information and knowledge, with analyses focusing on the nat- ural and socio-economic resources, in addition to the production systems. This study focuses on the potential of regenerative agriculture (RA) in the development of sustainable and resilient communities, particularly If applied to urban and periurban con- texts, identifying its practices, benefits, and alignment with global, European and national sus- tainability objectives. Horta da Quinta do Pisão (HQP) is a periurban municipal commercial farm that results from the agricultural development strategy in the municipality of Cascais. It’s located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, and is characterised by organic farming practices. In 2021, the restructuring of HQP’s management model was initiated, in order to optimise production, im- plementing RA practices. This investigation allowed the substantiation of HQP's transition to regenerative prac- tices. Thus, HQP was taken as a case study and an assessment of the agricultural and environ- mental sustainability of the farm was carried out, seeking to register the current practices be- ing applied, through a rapid analysis. The results of the assessment, together with the literature review, provided an overview of the environmental benefits of RA in the context of HQP, showing the advantage not only of this type of land use, but also of the approach used, for the municipality of Cascais, serving as an example for other territories seeking to fulfil the SDGs linked to climate action, education, food security, and others.
