"Mycobacterium avium is the most common non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM)
associated with human infections. Treatment of M. avium disease is challenging, with
microbiological eradication typically requiring a multidrug antibacterial regimen over a prolonged
period. This scenario worsens as no standardized drug susceptibility testing guidelines are
available. This work aimed to evaluate the provisional European Committee for Susceptibility
Testing (EUCAST) reference protocol for minimum inhibitory (MIC) determination of slow growing NTM, correlate it with established molecular determinants and examine its usefulness
for testing new drugs.(...)"
