Resumo(s)
"The scientific community's interest in hepatitis delta virus (HDV) was reinvigorated in 2020 with the availability of the first specific drug for treatment. HDV, strictly dependent on hepatitis B virus (HBV) for transmission, leads to rapid progression of hepatitis and a more severe prognosis compared to other viral hepatitis. The vaccination coverage against HBV in the Portuguese population reaches 98%, which indirectly protects it against HDV acquisition. Currently, HDV infection targets vulnerable populations or migrants from countries without vaccination programs. Limited studies on HDV co-infection/superinfection are available, and little is known about the prevalence or genotypes circulating in Portugal.(...)"
