Training and Skills Development for working with Intelligent ERP

Resumo(s)

The current generation of ERP systems has developed to the intelligent ERP or i-ERP systems which incorporate technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and the Internet of Things (IoT). This work aims at contributing to the existing literature in i-ERP systems given the current gap in literature regarding conceptual frameworks. The first objective is to establish the kinds of training and skills that organizations must develop to enable the proper implementation and use of i-ERP systems. This research with the help of Design Science Research (DSR) methodology focuses on the competencies required, develops a training program, and tests its applicability in a real-world context. The research findings reveal that the i-ERP systems provide valuable tools for increasing business operational effectiveness and strategic management by analyzing and predicting business operations’ real-time performance. However, to achieve the intended objectives in i-ERP implementation, organizations need to provide training that fills gap in skills amongst the workers. The training program which is proposed in this scenario seems to be a well thought out plan that incorporates both the technical aspects of the business such as AI/ML training as well as the human element of change management. The validation process of the program was based on a real case study and several rounds of feedback from the relevant industry specialists, which proved the program’s usability. Findings reveal that there is a significant enhancement in the employees’ competency in using i-ERP systems, resulting in enhanced efficiency and lower levels of errors. In addition, the study offers managerial implications on how to address potential barriers of employees’ resistance as well as encouraging the culture of learning. Therefore, providing a proposal for training and skill development, this research presents useful knowledge to both theory and practice. From an academic perspective, this study creates a foundation for the analysis of i-ERP systems and workforce training. In essence, it empowers organizations with the right methods to optimize on the intelligent ERP systems, thus improving their market position in the face of ever-changing technological advancements.
