| Resumo: | Illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing poses challenges that go beyond economic and environmental impacts. It disrupts evidence-based fisheries management and undermines the fair competition faced by law-abiding fishers in terms of resource access and market opportunities. The increased recognition of IUU fishing as a significant threat has prompted the need for effective measures to combat it. Governments, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations are now actively working to address this issue and develop strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of IUU fishing on global interests. To address these challenges, the implementation of a Business Intelligence (BI) solution, using Power BI™, is proposed. This BI solution aims to enhance the reporting and analysis capabilities of the Portuguese Navy (MP) and the National Maritime Authority (AMN), when dealing with data from the Integrated Surveillance, Inspection, and Control System of Fishing Activities (SIFICAP), and other fisheries inspection data. By centralizing and transforming decentralized data sources into actionable information, the BI system facilitates decision-making at various organizational levels, enabling more effective preparation of on-site sea inspections. The thesis focuses on describing how the maritime surveillance effect on fisheries-related infringements can be measured using the BI system. The goal is to ensure that relevant and timely information is available to the right individuals within the organization, thereby improving decision-making processes and enhancing the effectiveness of surveillance, inspection, and control activities in combating all fisheries infringements. |
