In today's data-driven business landscape, organizations are increasingly recognizing and
implementing Business Intelligence solutions to leverage real-time and reliable information for
strategic decision-making.
Implementing BI tools in the daily operations of businesses has become crucial to their strategic
development, applying these tools in the Procurement department will allow for the optimization of
daily tasks, the evaluation of supplier performance, and cost savings. This master thesis aims to provide
a full explanation of the project developed for the Procurement department at Company X.
The primary objective of this project is to build a Business Intelligence application that delivers up-to date data to support the Procurement department in decision-making, reporting to higher entities,
and compliance.
This project was developed using the Design Science Research methodology, along with a thorough
literature review covering Procurement, Procurement Analytics, the use of new technologies to
improve procurement, Business Intelligence to improve procurement, Performance evaluation, and
Business Intelligence in performance evaluation.
The resulting output is a Business Intelligence application with nine dashboards designed to support
the Procurement department's decision-making. The proposed solution empowers decision-makers
with real-time and reliable information, enabling data-driven decision-making, procurement process
optimisation, cost savings, and operational efficiency.
This master's thesis contributes to the academic and practical understanding of the role of Business
Intelligence in procurement. By examining the potential of BI solutions in improving procurement
activities, this research attempts to expand the body of knowledge and provide practical
recommendations for companies desiring to leverage data-driven information for procurement
optimisation.
