The present study contemplates the geological characterization of the western zone of the Boavista landfill in Lisbon in the scope of the Detailed Plan of the Boavista Poente landfill (PPABP), which aims at the urban and environmental reconversion of an area currently disjointed and partially occupied by derelict, obsolete and vacant industrial buildings. The aim of the study is the geological modelling in three dimensions of the Boavista landfill terrains, located in the Riverside area of Lisbon, with a purpose of contributing to the knowledge of the landfill geometry and its underlying layers (alluvium and Miocene ́s limestone) as well as an estimate of the volume of landfill materials categorized by typology, based on the observed lead concentration. The 3D geological modelling was executed using the 3D modelling software Leapfrog and was based on data from boreholes executed within the scope of geotechnical studies and the PPAB. Additionally, it intended to study the correlation, if any, between the metal contents observed in the landfill layer and the typology of its constituent materials. The works contemplated the determination of the concentrations of several metals by the X-Ray Fluorescence method as well as the macroscopic characterization of the typology of the sampled materials. The results show that the landfill consists of materials of different types, including ashes and slag, fragments of masonry and brick mixed with sandy clayey and alluvial soil, wood, and other inert materials. Based on geostatistical mathematical models, the mapping of metals and metalloids that exceeded the respective Reference Values (VRs) was executed and the volume of landfill materials with lead concentrations above the respective VR was estimated.
