Resumo(s)
The inclusion of people with disabilities has been receiving research attention in recent
years. This study contributes to the existent knowledge by exploring, with the use of in-depth
interviews, the experiences of Portuguese people with reduced mobility regarding their travel
experience. The most common barriers are identified, and possible solutions outlined, to add
value to the academic research on this topic while giving useful and practical recommendations
to decision makers. The study also contributes to previous literature on tourists with disabilities
by demonstrating that the website structure and design of famous travel booking websites in
fact reduces the travel intentions of people with reduced mobility. The study also identified the
potential of visual information to serve as a tool for people with reduced mobility to better
access, with full transparency, if an accommodation serves their specific needs and the requirements
of accessibility.
