Cada vez mais, nos últimos anos, tem sido reportado e estudado o aumento de lixo encontrado
no ambiente marinho. O ambiente marinho tem uma importância elevada para o ser humano
quer por ser uma grande fonte de biodiversidade, mas também por ser uma fonte de alimento.
As praias são também um local de grande importância para o ser humano, e para o ambiente
marinho. Tem sido reportado, em grande escala um aumento do lixo encontrado nas praias. A
Agência Europeia do Ambiente tem, então, tentado uma abordagem conjunta nas limpezas e
monitorizações de praia harmonizando os itens que devem constar nas listas que são utilizadas
pelas associações. Sendo assim cada país precisa de uma abordagem singularizada para resolver
este problema. Esta tese tem, então, como objetivo a construção de uma lista adaptada ao lixo
encontrado nas praias portuguesas, bem como a sua utilização por parte de todas as
organizações e associações em Portugal, para que seja possível uma harmonização do lixo
encontrado. Para tal foram analisados dados de várias organizações criando um top 10 de cada
lista para se encontrar uma imagem mais real do lixo presente. De seguida estes top 10 foram
comparados para descobrir se existe uma perda de dados aquando da harmonização das várias
listas. Chegou-se a resultados conclusivos que demonstram que algumas listas, devido às suas
diferentes organizações de tipologias, levam a uma grande perda de dados. Sendo assim, a
criação de uma lista nova e adequada às praias portuguesas é essencial, para que esta perda de
dados não exista. Esta nova lista tem como principal objetivo ser utilizada pelas diversas
organizações no futuro. A sua utilização permitirá que seja possível construir uma imagem mais
realista da tipologia presente nas praias portuguesas, e consequentemente que sejam tomadas
medidas para a minimização deste problema.
In the last years it has been documented and reported the rise of litter founded in the marine environment. The marine environment is highly important to humans because of being a big source of biodiversity and at the same time a big source of food. Beaches are also very important to Humans, and also to the marine environment. An increase in the amount of litter found on beaches has been reported on a large scale. The European Environment Union has therefore attempted a joint approach to cleaning and monitoring beaches, harmonizing the items that should appear on the lists that are used by the associations. The litter found on the beaches across Europe is different. Therefore, each country needs a unique approach to solve this problem. This thesis aims to build a list adopted to the litter found on Portuguese beaches, as well as its use by all organizations and associations in Portugal, so that it is possible to harmonize the litter that is found. To this end, data from various organizations were analyzed, creating a top 10 from each list to find a more realistic picture of the litter that is present. These top 10 were then compared to find out if there is a loss of data when harmonizing the various lists. Conclusive results were reached that demonstrate that the various lists, due to their different typology organization, lead to a great loss of data. Therefore, the creation of a new and suitable list for Portuguese beaches is essential, so that this loss of data does not occur. This new list is intended to be used by different organizations in the future. Its use will make it possible to build a more realistic image of the typology of litter present in Portuguese beaches, and consequently to make measures to minimize this problem.
