Background: Along with other non-conventional therapeutics, the professional activity of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was recently regulated in Portugal. The recent legal and normative evolution regarding TCM have contributed to positive social advances in the consolidation of TCM in portuguese society and health system. However, and according to World Health Organization, TCM utilization and its associated factors are not known for the Portuguese population. Given the unknown impact of the integration and the regulation of this oriental medicine in the Portuguese economic, social and cultural structure, it is urgent to produce studies that address the effects of TCM in the different dimensions of the Portuguese society. Objective: Analyze the demand profile of TCM users in the Lisbon region for the period between 2015 and 2020, taking into account the clinical and sociodemographic aspects. Method: Observational, transversal, analytical study, conducted at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Consultation Center in Lisbon, with a sample of 478 subjects. Data collection was carried out secondarily through direct consultation of clinical records. Results: A TCM user tends to be a female, aged between 30 and 50 years old and working mainly in especially intellectual and scientific activities. On average, one user have 6,2 (SD=10,2) consultations and 77% of the users return for a second treatment. In ten users, eight report that the main complaint improves after the first treatment. The complaints tend to be chronic, to include pain, and to be related with diseases of the musculoskeletal system or connective tissue, with the mental, behavioral or neurodevelopment disorders and with diseases of the nervous system. According to TCM differential diagnosis, most complaints are related to the system of the liver and with the meridian and collateral system.
