INTERVENÇÕES SUSTENTÁVEIS NO CONTEXTO DE FRENTES RIBEIRINHAS - CASO DE ESTUDO: ZONA RIBEIRINHA DO CARREGADO

As sociedades atuais são cada vez menos sustentáveis, nomeadamente ao nível social, econó-
mico e ambiental.
O Desenvolvimento Sustentável e o Planeamento Urbano Sustentável integram a necessidade
de estudar a viabilidade das intervenções sustentáveis, tendo em consideração as etapas do processo de
planeamento e os princípios de Desenvolvimento Urbano Sustentável.
A industrialização e o crescimento abrupto das populações urbanas, criaram, em particular, nas
frentes ribeirinhas que apresentavam antes da Revolução Industrial portos de menores dimensões, espa-
ços com pouca ou nenhuma rentabilidade social e económica, apesar de serem espaços estratégicos com
grandes potencialidades de rentabilidade e de permitirem a melhoria da qualidade de vida das popula-
ções.
Assim e existindo, cada vez mais, a necessidade de harmonia entre a cidade e o campo e a
existência de várias frentes ribeirinhas expectantes, existe a possibilidade de voltar a aproximar os ha-
bitantes com o rio com intervenções sustentáveis que proporcionem outro tipo de usos urbanos, promo-
vendo um crescimento económico estável das sociedades.
Pretendeu-se, com este trabalho, proceder a uma intervenção de desenvolvimento sustentável
numa frente ribeirinha, abordando como caso de estudo a frente ribeirinha do Carregado.
Foi realizada uma caraterização do local, analisada a necessidade de construir de raiz novas
estruturas, propondo fins para a sua utilização. Teve-se em conta o passeio ribeirinho já existente em
Vila Franca, propondo assim, neste projeto uma continuação do mesmo.
Conclui-se que o projeto da Frente Ribeirinha do Carregado se enquadra na evolução urbanística
da vila do Carregado. Considera-se uma intervenção viável e com possibilidade de contribuir para a
melhoria da qualidade de vida da população na área em que se integra.
Today's societies are becoming less and less sustainable, particularly in social, economic and environmental terms. Sustainable Development and Sustainable Urban Planning integrate the need to study the feasi- bility of sustainable interventions, taking into account the stages of the planning process and the prin- ciples of Sustainable Urban Development. Industrialization and the abrupt growth of urban populations have created, particularly on the riverfronts that had smaller ports before the Industrial Revolution, spaces with little or no social and economic profitability, despite being strategic spaces with great potential for profitability and for im- proving people's quality of life. As a result, there is an increasing need for harmony between the city and the countryside and the existence of several expectant riverfronts. There is a possibility of bringing the inhabitants closer to the river with sustainable interventions that provide other types of urban uses, promoting stable eco- nomic growth for societies. The aim of this work was to carry out a sustainable development intervention on a riverfront, using the Carrega-do riverfront as a case study. A characterization of the site was carried out, the need to build new structures from scratch was analysed, and purposes for their use were proposed. The existing riverside promenade in Vila Franca was taken into account, thus proposing a continuation of it in this project. In conclusion, the Carregado riverfront project fits in with the urban development of the town of Carregado. It is considered to be a viable intervention that can contribute to improving the quality of life of the population in the area in which it is integrated.
