RESUMO - Este estudo tem como objectivo caracterizar a participação no mercado de trabalho de pessoas com surdez. Foi analisada uma amostra de 144 indivíduos, adultos, todos eles com algum tipo de surdez, e comparados os dados obtidos com os referentes à população portuguesa. A análise mostra que na nossa amostra, o nível de escolaridade é superior ao da população, no entanto a taxa de emprego é inferior e a taxa de desemprego é mais do dobro do que na população portuguesa.
ABSTRACT - This study aims to characterize the labour market participation of deaf people. We analyzed a sample of 144 individuals, adults, all with some form of deafness, and compared the data with respect to the Portuguese population. The analyses shows that in our sample the level of education attained is higher than the population, but the employment rate is lower and the unemployment rate is more than twice than in the Portuguese population.
