Impact of variances on continuous usage of electric vehicles in Portugal

This study explores the factors influencing the continued use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Portugal, focusing on the roles of Task-Technology Fit (TTF), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Satisfaction, and Personal Norms (PN). By integrating the Expectation Confirmation Model (ECM) with TTF and PN constructs, the research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of what drives the continuance intention of EV owners. The findings underscore the critical importance of TTF and satisfaction in shaping users' intentions to continue using EVs. TTF, which measures how well EVs meet users' daily needs, emerged as a significant factor influencing both satisfaction and continuance intention. Satisfaction itself was found to be a strong predictor of continuance intention, reinforcing the necessity for manufacturers to focus on delivering a high-quality user experience. Interestingly, the study revealed that personal norms, while important for initial adoption, do not significantly influence long-term use decisions. This suggests that practical factors such as cost, convenience, and performance take precedence over moral and ethical considerations in the context of continued EV use. Additionally, the negative moderation effect of TTF on the relationship between PU and continuance intention suggests that as the fit between task and technology improves, the perceived usefulness of the EV becomes less critical in driving continuance intention. These insights highlight the need for manufacturers and policymakers to prioritize practical aspects of EVs and ensure they align closely with users' needs to foster long-term adoption and usage. The study's results provide valuable implications for the development of strategies to enhance user satisfaction and promote the sustained use of electric vehicles.
