a saĂșde humana.
Do
e proteger a saĂșde pĂșblica e o meio ambiente.
Air pollution is a pressing issue that affects not only the environment but also human health. Exposure to air pollutants, both in the short and long term, has been linked to a wide range of health problems and premature deaths. Given the importance of good air quality, various studies and platforms have focused on the visual representation of data to convey real-time air quality information. Although this topic has been widely explored, little attention has been given to the visualization of historical data. Since historical air quality data is extensive, its analysis, interpretation, and communication require effective methods. This study focuses on the development of interactive visual tools that facilitate the exploration of historical air quality data in Portugal, enabling the investigation of relevant analytical questions. The research is based on hourly measurements of atmospheric pollutant concentrations collected over more than twenty years from the QualAr platform, meteorological data provided by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere, and records of dust occurrences. From the processing of these datasets, a structured dataset suitable for analysis was generated. To effectively address analytical questions, four dashboards were developed, allowing the exploration of this data according to different perspectives, using various aggregations and relevant metrics. The versatility of the tools, developed through a tailored methodology, enables diverse and in-depth analyses, making the examination of large volumes of data more accessible. As a result, the dashboards not only facilitate the extraction of insights but also allow for clear communication of results, even to less specialized audiences. By providing a comprehensive analysis of air quality in Portugal over time, this study has the potential to contribute significantly to informed decision-making and the implementation of more effective policies to combat air pollution and protect public health and the environment.
