dc.description.abstractA 7 de setembro de 1822, após mais de três séculos sujeito a Portugal, o Brasil proclamou a sua independência. Cem anos mais tarde, a independência do Brasil foi motivo de celebração em ambos os países, com a imprensa portuguesa a fazer uma ampla cobertura do acontecimento. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo responder à seguinte pergunta: de que forma a imprensa portuguesa, mais especificamente, as revistas de informação geral cobriram as festas do centenário da independência brasileira em Portugal e no Brasil? Para isso, foi realizada uma análise qualitativa do discurso de todos os números da Ilustração Portuguesa e da ABC publicados entre agosto e dezembro de 1922. A análise incidiu nas sequências discursivas e nos exemplos iconográficos interpretados, desde um olhar hermenêutico e heurístico. Concluiu-se que a cobertura do centenário da independência foi lusocêntrica. On September 7 of 1822, after more than three centuries as a colony of Portugal, Brazil proclaimed its independence. One hundred years later, Brazil’s independence was a cause for celebration in both countries, with the Portuguese press covering the event extensively. This research aims to answer the following question: how the Portuguese press, more specifically, the general information magazines covered the centenary of Brazilian independence in Portugal and in Brazil? A qualitative analysis of the discourse of all the issues of Ilustração Portuguesa and ABC published between August and December 1922 was carried out. The analysis focused on discursive sequences and iconographic examples interpreted from a hermeneutic and heuristic perspective. It was concluded that the coverage of the centenary of independence was lusocentric.en
