A Diáspora cabo-verdiana é um fenómeno notável, especialmente quando comparado com a sua população residente. Pensar que os cabo-verdianos e seus descendentes que residem fora de Cabo Verde são mais numerosos do que aqueles que permanecem no território nacional é algo que levanta questões importantes para as ciências socias, dada a sua particularidade e as implicações que tem em diversas áreas, como a economia, a política e a cultura, além de influenciar as dinâmicas sociais de Cabo Verde. Este relatório de estágio, intitulado A Diáspora Cabo-Verdiana na Suíça – Perspetiva da Embaixada e Missão Permanente de Cabo Verde em Genebra, concentra-se na análise da diáspora cabo-verdiana residente na Suíça a partir da perspetiva desta instituição, durante o período de 2017 a 2021.
O principal objetivo do estudo é traçar o perfil sociodemográfico dos migrantes cabo- verdianos inscritos na secção consular da Embaixada e Missão Permanente de Cabo Verde em Genebra ao longo desse quinquénio, procurando identificar quem são esses migrantes e suas principais características, nomeadamente o sexo, o estado civil, a faixa etária, as profissões, nacionalidades e naturalidade. Além disso, procura-se verificar se existe um padrão relativamente ao perfil destes utentes ou se tem sofrido alterações ao longo dos cinco anos.
É importante destacar que o estudo se limita a uma parte específica da diáspora cabo- verdiana na Suíça – apenas aqueles que se inscreveram na secção consular ente 2017 e 2021. Ainda assim, este relatório, tenta preencher uma lacuna ao fornecer uma análise detalhada e atualizada desta parte da diáspora cabo-verdiana, um aspeto relevante, dado o crescente interesse do atual governo de Cabo Verde relativamente à sua comunidade que reside no exterior.
Este estudo utiliza uma abordagem quantitativa, com base na análise de dados fornecidos pela Embaixada, o que permite uma caracterização mais detalhada e precisa da diáspora. Assim, a principal contribuição deste relatório de estágio é fornecer uma visão mais aprofundada do perfil sociodemográfico da diáspora cabo-verdiana na Suíça, que poderá ajudar e contribuir para a formulação políticas públicas mais eficazes e para a definição de estratégias alinhadas com as características específicas dessa comunidade.
The cape verdean diaspora is a remarkable phenomenon, especially when compared to its resident population. The idea that cape verdeans and their descendants living abroad are more numerous than those who remain in the country, raises important question for the social sciences, given its particularity and the implications it has in various areas such as the economy, politics, and culture, as well as its influence on Cape Verde´s social dynamics. This report, titled The Cape Verdean Diaspora in Switzerland - Perspective from the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Cape Verde in Geneva, focuses on analysing the cape verdean diaspora living in Switzerland from the perspective of this institution, during the period from 2017 to 2021. The main objective of the study is to outline the sociodemographic profile of cape verdean migrants registered in the consular section of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Cape Verde in Geneva over this five years period, aiming to identify who these migrants are and their main characteristics, including gender, marital status, age group, occupations, nationalities and place of birth. In additionally, the study aims to identify if there are consistent trends in the profile of these individuals or if it has changed over the time. It is important to note that the study is limited to a specific part of the cape verdean diaspora in Switzerland – only those who registered at the consular section between 2017 and 2021. Nevertheless, this report aims to fill a gap by providing a detailed and updated analysis of part of the cape verdean diaspora in Switzerland. This is particularly relevant given the growing interest of the current cape verdean government regarding its community abroad. This study adopted a quantitative approach, based on the analysis of data provided by the Embassy, which allows for a more detailed and accurate characterization of the diaspora. So, the main contribution of this internship report is to offer a deeper understanding of the sociodemographic profile of the cape verdean diaspora in Switzerland, which may assist the formulation of more effective public policies and defining adapted strategies to the specific characteristics of this community.
