Domestic service sustains daily life and the functioning of society, yet it remains invisible and largely unrecognized work. Literature, in general, has acknowledged the lack of visibility of domestic service, and this invisibility extends to those who provide it, the domestic workers. Based on the story already told, of the girls and women who migrated from rural areas to large cities with the purpose of “serving in their employers' homes,” of the Domestic Service Union and the Cooperative that emerged from it, which were formed after April 25, this dissertation aims to bring new contributions to the visibility and dignity of the sector today, especially of the women who live from it. Thus, it explores their tools of resistance, the way they organize themselves, their collective action, but also their concerns and ambitions, which will be told by them. At the same time, it seeks to understand the role of care within domestic service, and how a National Care Service could be on the horizon for these women's struggle. This is where the experience of Uruguay and the advances we have found there come in.
