Resumo(s)

Perovskite-based tandem solar cells are an interesting new avenue to explore for space applications. This is due to their high absorption coefficient, tunable bandgap, natural compatibility with ultrathin flexible substrates and recently demonstrated resistance to space radiation. Also, notably, Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs) offer a lightweight and high-efficiency alternative to conventional silicon and III-V devices, with clear advantages in terms of specific power. This work focuses on maximizing light absorption by optimizing photonic-enabled perovskite tandems through Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) simulations combined with a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Ultimately, I start with a careful convergence analysis to determine the most efficient simulation conditions. This is followed by a complete geometrical optimization of the structures for the planar and structured devices. Lastly, I analyse and compare the optimized geometries. The results showed that the optimized structures converge toward properly matched photocurrent densities (between the top and bottom subcells) of ≈ 22 mA/cm2 , corresponding to ≈ 85% of the theoretical AM0 limit. This represents an improvement of 5.5% when compared with the planar-only device. Notably, the high spectral utilization confirms the strong potential of perovskite tandems, both planar and textured, for next-generation space photovoltaic technologies.
