| dc.description.abstract | Em 1987, o cineasta português Jorge Silva Melo (n. 1948) filmou uma adaptação de A Praia, romance que o escritor, tradutor e guionista italiano CesarePavese (1908-1950) publicou em 1942. Foi uma das muitas adaptações da obra pavesiana ao cinema, mas a primeira no cinema português. Agostoestrearia em 1991, mas o nome de Pavese só seria creditado em materiais promocionais após a estreia. Tal ausência não impede -até mesmo, ao despertar a curiosidade, incita -a comparação de uma obra a outra, na tentativa de ver nelas vestígios de expressividade autoral e de uma leitura muito particular e simbólica que o cineasta português parece fazer do livro de Pavese. As duas obras compartilham vários elementos narrativos, mas principalmente estilísticos, o que, acreditamos, ressalta a comparação. Na busca da sua identificação, recorremos aos depoimentos de ambos os autores, bem como a uma análise fílmica voltada para o tratamento de imagens, sons, músicas, materialidades, construção de diálogos, apelo ao voyeurismo e atuação dos atores principais The Beach, a short novel that the Italian writer, translator and screenwriter Cesare Pavese (1908-1950) published in 1942. Agostowas one among many adaptations of the Pavesian work for cinema, but the very first in Portuguese cinema (the film would only debut in 1991). However, the name of Pavese would not be credited in the promotional materials until after the premiere. Such absence does not prevent –it rather incites, since it arouses curiosity –a parallel close reading of the two works, in an attempt to see in them marks of authorial expressiveness, and a very particular and symbolic exegesis that the Portuguese filmmaker seems to construct from Pavese’s book. Both works share particular narrative elements; but above all they have stylistic traits in common, which we believe this comparative reading underlines. In seeking their identification we sought the published testimonies of both authors, as well as a film analysis centered on the treatment of images, sound, music, materiality, construction of dialogues, appeal to voyeurism and the performance of the main actors. | en |
