Resumo(s)
This study explores the perceptions of different generations regarding the use of AI tools and
related techniques in the work field. Applying the unified theory of acceptance and use of
technology 2 (UTAUT2) as the theoretical framework, complemented by the empowerment
theory, this research aims to understand the factors influencing the adoption and use of AI
tools among Portuguese employees, and the impact that these factors are causing. Data was
collected through a survey which included 321 respondents, whose responses were analyzed
using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that
social influence, price value, hedonic motivation, and habit significantly impact the intention
to use AI tools and the use behavior. On the other hand, performance expectancy, effort
expectancy, and facilitating conditions were not found to significantly influence the intention
to use or the actual use behavior. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of access
to information, resources, and support in fostering AI-human co-creation, as well has the
moderator effect of workload in the final outcomes. The results provide valuable insights for
organizations aiming to enhance AI adoption and integration in the workplace, based on the
impacts on productivity and innovation that it may have at work environments. Thus, the
study emphasizes the need for supportive or collaborative work environments and addresses
potential barriers to technology acceptance.
