| dc.description.abstract | Visitors of cultural exhibitions face many constraints, such as distance, mobility problems, economic reasons, health-related problems, as well as artefacts’ availability issues. The availability of virtual visits may help mitigate this problem, where the users could ex- perience the visits as if they were physically present. This virtual experience needs to attract visitors and maybe encourage some to visit the museum physically, which could be accomplished by providing additional experiences which that would be impossible to experience in person. The work carried out during the duration of this thesis is an extension for a system that allows creating and editing virtual exhibitions. The new system allows the user to interact with the artefacts in the virtual environment. In this system, new functionalities were implemented to allow the users to manipulate the virtual artefacts and change the texture the artefacts. A gallery menu was also developed to show different models of the same artefact. The system also includes the option to select specific parts of the artefact to display detailed information about them. The work also included the design of a new interface for the manipulation features, the beginning of the integration of the new system with the base platform and the evaluation of the new features through usability tests. This evaluation made it possible to draw positive conclusions regarding the developed system, as well gather feedback on potential improvements for some future work. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Os visitantes de exposições culturais enfrentam diversas limitações, como a distância, problemas de mobilidade, razões económicas, problemas de saúde, bem como questões relacionadas com a disponibilidade dos artefactos. A disponibilização de visitas virtuais pode ajudar a mitigar este problema, permitindo que os utilizadores visitem as exposições como se estivessem fisicamente presentes. Esta experiência virtual precisa de atrair visi- tantes e, eventualmente, encorajar alguns a visitar o museu presencialmente, o que pode ser alcançado através da criação de experiências adicionais, impossíveis de experienciar presencialmente. O trabalho realizado durante esta dissertação é uma extensão de um sistema que permite a criação e edição de exposições virtuais. O novo sistema permite ao utilizador interagir com os artefactos no ambiente virtual. Neste sistema, foram implementadas novas funcionalidades para permitir aos utilizadores manipular os artefactos virtuais e alterar a textura dos mesmos. Um menu en forma de galeria foi também desenvolvido para mostrar os diferentes modelos do mesmo artefacto. O sistema inclui ainda a opção de selecionar partes específicas do artefacto para receber informações detalhadas sobre elas. O trabalho também incluiu o design de uma nova interface para as funcionalidades de manipulação, o início da integração do novo sistema com a plataforma base e a avaliação das novas funcionalidades através de testes de usabilidade. Esta avaliação permitiu tirar conclusões positivas sobre o sistema desenvolvido, bem como recolher feedback sobre potenciais melhorias para trabalhos futuros. | pt_PT |
