RESUMO - As arboviroses representam uma preocupação crescente para a saúde pública a nível global, sendo o dengue uma das mais significativas devido à sua ampla distribuição geográfica e potencial para causar surtos graves. Em Portugal, a presença do seu vetor (mosquito Aedes aegypti), aliada a fatores como a globalização e as alterações climáticas, levantam preocupações sobre o seu estabelecimento na Ilha da Madeira e a crescente disseminação em partes do território nacional aonde anteriormente era inexistente.
No presente estudo, pretende-se analisar as estratégias de prevenção e os resultados dos principais programas de vigilância epidemiológicas contra arboviroses que têm sido desenvolvidos no país; Foi realizado um estudo descritivo exploratória transversal e análise documental dos diferentes programas, para compreender em profundidade as estratégias de vigilância epidemiológica, prevenção e controlo da dengue em Portugal com realce na Ilha da
Madeira.
Segundo dados da vigilância Entomológica e os planos de monitorização de Ae. Albopictus e Ae. Aegypti, no ano 2023 em 231 concelhos foram realizadas 1484 coletas de mosquitos adultos com uma média de 8 por conselho e um total de 5102 mosquitos capturados, 2544 de mosquitos imaturos coletados uma média de 14 por conselho e um total de 35463 larvas/pupas capturadas, 7556 de ovos coletados com uma média de ~33 por concelhos e
um total de 68357 ovos capturados. Foram identificados mosquitos adultos e imaturos de 14 espécies nos laboratórios.
Em 2024 os planos de vigilância de Aedes albopictus decorreram em todas as regiões do continente e de Aedes aegypti na Região Autónoma da Madeira. Em 9122 observações de ovitraps foram contados 65802 ovos e em 592 sessões de armadilhagem de adultos foram
identificados 1237 espécimes de Aedes albopictus. Com origem na Madeira foram identificados 9971 ovos e 231 adultos de Aedes aegypti.
Apesar de durante o período do estudo não serem encontrados casos positivos autóctones de dengue a permanência do vetor na Ilha da Madeira e a sua expansão à novos territórios do país aumenta o nível de risco de surtos daí a importância de tornar mais eficientes as estratégias e os programas de vigilância epidemiológica.

In Portugal, the presence of its vector (Aedes aegypti mosquito), combined with factors such as globalization and climate change, raises concerns about its establishment on Madeira Island and the increasing spread into parts of the national territory where it was previously absen). This study aims to analyze prevention strategies and the outcomes of major epidemiological surveillance programs targeting arboviruses that have been implemented in the country. A cross-sectional exploratory descriptive study and document analysis of various programs were conducted to gain an in-depth understanding of the epidemiological surveillance, prevention, and control strategies for dengue in Portugal, with a particular focus on Madeira Island. According to entomological surveillance data and monitoring plans for Ae. albopictus and Ae.aegypti, in 2023, mosquito collections were conducted in 231 municipalities, resulting in 1,484 adult mosquito samples, averaging 8 per municipality, and a total of 5,102 adult mosquitoes captured. Additionally, 2,544 immature mosquitoes were collected, with an average of 14 per municipality and a total of 35,463 larvae/pupae. A total of 7,556 eggs were collected, averaging approximately 33 per municipality, with a total of 68,357 eggs. Adult and immature mosquitoes of 14 species were identified in laboratory analyses. In 2024, surveillance plans for Aedes albopictus were carried out in all regions of mainland Portugal, and for Aedes aegypti in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. A total of 65,802 eggs were counted in 9,122 ovitrap observations, and 1,237 Aedes albopictus specimens were identified in 592 adult trapping sessions. From Madeira, 9,971 eggs and 231 adult Aedes aegypti specimens were identified. Although no autochthonous cases of dengue were detected during the study period, the continued presence of the vector on Madeira Island and its expansion into new areas of the country increases the risk of outbreaks.
