Resumo(s)

The 1977 novel Directa, by Nuno Bragança, develops two narrative threads: 1) the escape of a resister against Salazarism; 2) the fight to save the protagonist’s wife from depression. In a 31-hour action, the protagonist’s mission operates to save his wife and his homeland, both in a state of alienation and lethargy. Directa establishes several parallels with Fernando Pessoa’s Mensagem, but, in addition, in a writing that includes the incorporation of other people’s voices in its program of production of meanings and pragmatic effects, Pessoa’s voice occupies a privileged place in several passages of the novel, through an intertextual dialogue with Mensagem and some poems by Álvaro de Campos. In this article, we intend to show these parallels and this intertextual dialogue, as well as some of the effects produced.
