"Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are complex age-related disorders that are currently lacking a cure. Their rising number accounts for a tremendous societal burden that cannot be ignored. When most therapies fail to treat these diseases, prevention emerges as the most promising approach to manage the devastating consequences of NDs, such as Parkinson’s disease (PD). PD ranks among the most prevalent NDs, being a progressive movement disorder primarily affecting dopaminergic neurons in the brain. The failure of these networks triggers an increased state of neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and metabolic damage. (...)"
