A focus on strengthening the environmental performance of Águas do Tejo Atlântico by examining the four areas identified as strategic priorities; wastewater reuse, energy efficiency, biodiversity stewardship, and sludge valorisation. Through a review of academic literature,
industry case studies, and key regulatory frameworks, namely Portugal's Decree-Law 119/2019 and the EU Water Framework Directive, best practices and regulatory implications are identified across each area. Findings reveal significant interdependencies between the four
priorities, highlighting the need for an integrated, performance-based approach underpinned by unified KPIs, digital monitoring, and proactive stakeholder engagement, providing an evidence-based foundation for strategic decision making.
